Apparent Disk Failure Makes it Inaccessible and Unbootable

Hard drive is the most popular and widely used data storage media. However, sometimes the apparent failure of hard drive occurs and it makes the drive unbootable and inaccessible. It is a general hard drive failure. In this case, either an error is displayed that indicates hard drive failure during boot process, or some problems make the drive inaccessible, unmountable, or undetectable in BIOS (Basic Input/Output System). This behavior of hard disk drive leads to serious data loss situations and need data recovery to be sorted out.

Cause

There are several different reasons of the apparent hard drive failures. These causes includes configuration issues, disk metadata structure corruption, mechanical hard drive failure, disk controller failure, and electronic damage. In all such cases, you can not access your mission critical data from the affected hard drive.

Resolution

Go through the underwritten steps to try fixing this problem:

  • Check whether the hard drive controller can see the hard drive or not. Generally the hard drive failure makes the drive undetectable by controller. Enter the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) setup utility and use controller detection facility of BIOS to check if the hard drive parameters are detectable.

  • If you are able to see the drive in autodetect operation, the issue is possibly due to software reasons. You can not generally boot a new hard drive until your format it.

  • See whether the hard drive boots up. If the drive does not boot up, then boot your system from floppy disk and use FDISK command to see whether you can check the drive.

  • If your hard drive boots up, then you may get some sorts of specific error messages or the failure mode, which you could use for the troubleshooting.

  • If hard drive can be detected by BIOS but can not be accessed or booted while booting the system from floppy, then the problem may be due to bad hard drive.

The hard drive failure leads to critical data loss and Data Recovery is required to fix the problem. The recovery solutions are vary, depending upon the cause and type of failure.

If the data loss is caused by physical damage to the hard drive, Data Recovery Service helps you to extract data from the affected drive. In case if the problem is due to logical failure like file system corruption and accidental deletion, Data Recovery Software come for your rescue.
