Windows Vista boot loader is termed as Winload.exe. The file plays a significant role in Windows Vista boot process, similar to what is played by NTLDR in earlier versions Windows NT Core operating systems. Hence it can make system unbootable if gets corrupt or damaged, which may eventually need Data Recovery. Windows Boot Manager invokes and uses the file to load device drivers and ntoskrl.exe (Windows kernel image).
Winload.exe Corruption
While Winload.exe is missing or corrupt, system fails to boot. The file can get corrupt due to software or hardware change, corrupt BCD (Boot Configuration Data) entries or unexpected shutdown. Also users report the same issue after they use incompatible partition resizing utilities for Windows Vista partitions. Windows Vista uses a different partitioning scheme (with respect to space required before primary partition) as compared to Windows XP and earlier Windows versions. The error reported in this case can be as follows:
File: \windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: “The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.”
Solution
1 As the first option, we can use Windows Recovery Environment in order to repair. We can make use of Startup Repair option in System Recovery Options dialog box by choosing the operating system to repair. The option can correct most of the startup issues. Alternatively command prompt can be used.
2 Windows Recovery Environment can be used to choose and recover the system to an appropriate restore point. The option will get the system to a working state.
Note: The option is applicable only if System Restore was enabled earlier.
3 If above attempts fail to resolve the issue, we need to reinstall Windows Vista. Thus, it is recommended to backup all data by attaching the hard disk to another working system. Formatting a hard drive deletes all data and if backup fails in this case, Data Recovery Software will be required. Hence data backup status must be checked once the user completes the backup procedure. It will be more cautious to look if media actually gives required results.
These are the specialized tools to recover lost data. The applications are mostly implemented when backup fails or doesn’t exist at all. In such cases, Data Recovery Software can recover information from affected media. Such advanced Data Recovery applications don’t compromise with data safety and keep your valuable files intact. This is due to their read-only nature. Due to their interactive interface, they serve the purpose of user friendliness along with high end File Recovery.
