STOP 0x0000002E" error during Windows Server 2000 bootup

It is very unfortunate to receive a STOP Error while booting Windows operating system. A STOP error message in Windows Server 2000 can be caused due to hardware (hard drive damage, defective hardware component etc.) or software (file system loss, virus etc.) issues. This error message does not let the user to boot the server normally and makes the critical user data stored in the hard drive inaccessible. In such situations, depending on the cause of the STOP error message, the user needs to use a Data Recovery Software for software issues or Data Recovery service for hardware issues.

As a practical scenario, an administrator using Windows Server 2000 based server encounters a blue screen with the below error message:

“STOP: 0x0000002E (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
DATA_BUS_ERROR”

After the above error message appears, the data stored in the hard drive becomes inaccessible. The above error message mainly occurs due to parity error in the system memory. A parity error is caused due to the following reasons:

  • Incompatible hardware components
  • Defective hardware component attached to the computer system
  • Buggy driver attempting to access the address range that does not map to a real physical address
  • Master Boot Record (MBR) corruption due to virus infection
  • Mismatched or Misconfigured hardware component
  • Physically damaged hard drive

To resolve the above issue and access the data saved in the hard drive, the user needs to follow these steps:

  • If the above error message appears after adding a new hardware to the system, then the user needs to remove the hardware component and check for any compatibility issue.

  • If the STOP error message has occurred due to updation or installation of a driver, then the user needs to uninstall the driver and replace it with a new and error-free driver.

  • An MBR corruption causing this error can be resolved by scanning the MBR with good antivirus software. If the problem still persists due to MBR corruption, then the user needs to use effective recovery application. A recovery utility employs effective scanning algorithms to recover and restore the lost data.

  • The above error message can be caused by physical damage of the hard drive. In such scenarios, the user needs to take help of the Data Recovery services. These services are provided by recovery companies and ensure absolute recovery of data from a physically damaged hard drive.
