Setup Errors In Windows XP

Setup Errors In Windows XPIn few of the cases this has been seen that during the upgrade process, the setup may not proceed as expected and you may see some unexpected behavior along with few error messages:

“Setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the selected partition. This partition contains temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation.”

Additionally, the system may hang with the following error message:

“An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing. One of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. Data error "cyclic redundancy check"”

The process repeats each time, if you restart the computer system. Not only the upgrade fails, but these error messages indicate that Setup is encountering problems related to hard disk, either logical or physical. The hard disk is not in the condition that can allow upgrade to proceed. The error messages generate because setup tries to repair the hard disk problems.

  • File system may have become corrupt. So you can either let the setup itself to correct the issues or can use chkdsk/r. If even after several repetitions, setup is not able to offer hard disk recovery, you should try repairing through chkdsk/r command which is the utility to repair most of the file system damages. However, if both of the solutions don’t work for hard drive recovery, use commercial data recovery utilities to extract lost information.
  • The hard disk failure can be physical also. If you get some clicking sounds also, the situation gets confirmed. Replace it, if it is under warranty period or call hard disk recovery technicians who can help extracting lost data.
